Motor City Scholarships

Ron Bate Scholarship

Each year five young people who are committed to their community and studies are selected to receive a Ron Bate Scholarship.

Five recipients receive $2,000 to help with their post-secondary education. That's a total of $10,000!

About Ron Bate

Ron Bate was a Director and Corporate Secretary of the Windsor City Centre Credit Union for 22 years. He died suddenly on his way home from an Executive meeting on January 16, 2003. Ron was one of the Credit Union’s most dedicated Directors and was a strong advocate of the Credit Union system. He was usually the first to arrive and the last to leave meetings, and his decisions would always lean towards what was best for the Members.

Married to Diane Holman, Ron was also a father and grandfather. He retired in October 2001 from the City of Windsor as an Operations Supervisor with the Public Works Department after 35 years. He was an avid model railroader and refereed many professional and minor hockey levels. He also had a humorous side and would entertain, sometimes unknowingly, with his way of words, witticisms and thought-provoking sayings. We lost a good friend, but the Credit Union also lost a great Director.

The Ron Bate Scholarship was created to honour his legacy and devotion to the Credit Union.

Frank Moceri Scholarship

Established in 2021 in partnership with the Moceri family to honour the memory of Director Frank Moceri, who passed away in 2020.

One recipient receives $2,000 to help with their post-secondary education.

This scholarship will be presented to a student who has been accepted or attending a St. Clair College program related to Finance or Accounting, exemplifies volunteerism through community involvement, and understands the importance of a company engaged with its community.

About Frank Moceri

As a strong advocate for the Windsor-Essex community, Frank applied his knowledge and expertise to advance the region. He was respected and loved as a Director of Motor City Community Credit Union, a proud St. Clair College graduate and Alumni of Distinction winner, and a recipient of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Company of the Year.
